Shrub identification please

Hi,

I'm in mourning for an unidentified plant.  My neighbour had a lovely, large (roughly 3m) shrub, which blew over in the wind.  Instead of staking it and firming it back in, they had it chopped up and taken away.  It really was stunningly beautiful as it had lovely reddy purple foliage in mid January!  There aren't many plants that can do that image  I'm attaching some pics in the hope that someone can tell me what it was, so I can plant one image  I've taken the pic to 2 garden centres and had Photinia suggested (I'm not convinced as it was a lot more purple than my Photinia and just looked different) and perhaps wild viburnum.  I've done an extensive internet search of viburnum and I can't find an evergreen or semi-evergreen variety that has the coloured foliage.  The first pic was taken in Jan and the second in Dec last year.  I believe it was just green in summer and have no idea about fruits or flowers as I didn't notice.  We've only been here a year so I'm not familiar with the whole garden yet.  Thanks in advance image
