are these viburnums ready for the big bad world?

djjjuk, I don't know what the weather is like in your area but if those plants have been hardened off and your ground is not frozen, I would think that you could plant them. I put in one of that size late autumn and it is merrily flowering away.

the viburnums have been outside in those pots since september, we've had a couple of frosts but where they are placed they are sheltered a little so havent suffered a 'hard' frost as such. i have heavy clay and as its rained a lot, the ground will likely be quite waterlogged (although, this afternoon i am going to dig in sharp sand, grit and rotted matter to improve this structure)
Still plenty of winter to come yet - much depends where you live - nothing will go outside here for a couple of months yet.
It depends on your ground. If you have free draining stuff, yes, but I wouldn't plant if its a clayey quagmire. Everything I have in pots will stay there until march when the soil condition improves.
The forecast is talking about far greater degrees of cold by the end of the week. I'm not considering putting seeds in trays or pots yet, never mind putting things out. My greenhouse, just heated to keep off frost, still full of overwintering things, and expect it to be so for many weeks yet.
