Mildew

I planted a Clematis beneath an extractor vent from my kitchen and it has been covered in mildew more or less all year. It produced lots of flower buds some of which failed to open due to the mildew. Can someone advise if this is due to the vent from the kitchen, or is it just due to the wet weather we have had?

It's probably a combination of the two, but mostly the weather.

Next year, try spraying with a mix of one part milk to nine parts water every couple of days as soon as the mildew appears.
