The Sage in my new garden has really flourished and Ive had to cut it back several times during the Summer. Do I leave it to keep going year round or should it be cut right down each year?
Its getting a bit blackened here and there, presumably by frost.

I generally find there's bits need to be removed at the end of winter, otherwise I let id get on with its life.

I agree with nut - common sage has lovely flowers which you will lose if it's regularly cut back hard. If a 'branch' gets too leggy you can try cutting it back hard but they don't always send out shoots from very old wood. I treat mine as short-lived perennials and replace them when they get too woody and leggy (after about 5 years or so) just like lavender.
Sage takes happily from cuttings so easy to replace.
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
