Create drainage in 1mx40 cm planter

I am thinking of ordering these but strangely they do not have any drainage.
I suppose I need to drill some but where would you suggest, how big and how many?
Do I need to cover the holes I drill with anything?

I would add double the amount of drainage holes mentioned. I like to add gravel and vermiculite to the bottom of pots and troughs, then a mix of that and compost then just compost. Top off after planting with a mulch - bark, gravel etc.
Cheers guys. What size holes would you suggest?
I would use an 8 to 10mm drill bit. If the holes are too small they can easily get blocked and plants growing in containers definitely won't like being waterlogged.
