Old shrubs

Dear All, I have two plants both old in my garden one is a Quince the other one is a Forest Flame and I don't know whether to dig them out because they are both struggling. I have cut both back recently to see if this helps. What do you think?

Kate, couple of years ago I had 2 Forest Flame which had been in a small front garden for 2 years. The second year they both started to droop and the leaves were discoloured. I dug both up, left them in a bucket of water for a couple of hours and transplanted them in the back garden with a handful of bonemeal mixed in. The new site had deeper soil and it had added rough garden compost. I gave both a good watering once transplanted. They both sulked and drooped for about a month and then took on a new life and have been doing really well ever since. There's another thread where someone asks about feeding them but no responses on that as yet I think which would be good to know. I hope you get some expert advice because they are such lovely plants. Sorry this doesn't directly answer your question but would be interested to hear what the experts think.
Dear Yarrow, many thanks for your response; as yet I have not done anything but I think I will give them a feed and a good water just to see what happens and then if no response dig them up. Cheers

Is there a specific time of the year to transplant the Forest Flames
I would think now or autumn would be best. If you do it now, you will just need to remember to keep them watered over the summer as they will still be getting established in their new home
