I have bought some begonia bulbs and don't know when to plant them out, can anyone advise

  • I've just put some in a container this week, lovingly sitting on the dressing table by the window, next to some 1st early pototoes (good job my wife loves me). Wait till the danger of frost is over before putting outside

You can start these off now in seed trays of peaty, sandy compost, and just cover the corms with the soil. When they have shoots on them, either put them in 6/8" pots for conservatory or patio, or plant them out around May/ June time, when there is no danger of frosts. Feed them with a good feed through the growing season, then when they have finished flowering  bring them in and dry them out. You can keep these for years.

  • Thank you both for your replies, I am very much the novice and thought it may be too early to put them out. Will start them off in doors as suggested, filling the window ledges I fear.... worth it though I am sure. Thanks again

  • I have just put my two begonia corms in compost in a seed tray, silly question, but do I need to water them in order for them to shoot ?
