  • I had parsnips, carrots, two types of potato, brussels, savoy cabbage, leeks and squash, all fresh from the garden (well, apart from the squash which was stored in the conservatory.)  Lovely it was too! image  Pity I don't have room to keep poultry or I would have grown everything on the plate. image

A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.

Sprouting brocolli from garden along with our leeks & apple sauce from eating apple tree, just added a squirt of lemon juice.

  • Just been down the garden centre for a packet of turkey seeds but they don't come in until the end of January!!!
  • Nothing from the garden on our table for xmas dinner but next yr.. heaps I hope. Although I do have lots of blackberries raspberries red current blackcurrants gooseberries and bramley apples in the freezer.

I have leeks and perpetual spinach in the garden, the rest of the veg is in the freezer. But on Christmas Day I bought the veg, needed enough for 16!

Dordogne and Norfolk. Clay in Dordogne, sandy in Norfolk.

Been growing  our own veg at Christmas for nearly 40 years. (And for much of the rest of the year too!).

I'd love to bring something to the table next year! With grandma making so many cakes Mr. Kipling gets nervous and my partners family hosting / guarding the kitchen with their knives there's very little we can contribute (my partner might draw the line at growing my own chicken though).
