advice on tree guard size for dwarf stock fruit trees

I've just ordered some dwarf stock fruit trees and will need to protect them from deer and rabbits. They are supplied at 1.5m tall multi-branched bare root. I'm thinking of ordering plastic mesh treeguard tubes. The tubes come in lengths of 60cm up to 1.8m (80-110mm dia.). Any idea which length would be best?

  • Depends where the branching starts. As tall as possible for protection from deer. You could use reinforced plastic mesh on a roll and form it into a cylinder, that would give you more width to protect the lower branches.
