Tall UK trees with short roots

I need to know a fast growing UK tree with short roots so as not to cause damage to houses pipes or drains? Can anyone help? I have watched enough progs to realise that planting the wrong tree near a house is dire as they drink much water causing the land to shrink back plus they get into pipes etc

Maples are shallow rooted as are many trees. The larger the tree the larger the amount of water soaked up and if you have heavy clay soil then that can shrink the soil causing problems with foundations. Japanese Maples are not exactly fast growing though.
