Castlewellan gold are a type of leylandii, and be cut at any time of year. leylandii grow quite steadily through the year, and don't slow down as much as others in the winter. they can grow as much as a metre a year, so if you already think it needs a trim, best do it sooner rather than later, before it becomes a lot more difficult.
Just check for nesting birds first, as leylandii are some of their favourite nesting spots
