Little flys
Hi,
anyone know why I have tiny flys in the compost of some plants I am keeping over winter in my house? When I water you can see them wriggle and take to the air !!!

They're known as fungus gnats aka sciarid flies. Not usually harmful but a nuisance. There's a useful pdf from Which magazine here:

If you water the plant from below instead of onto the top of the soil you won't get them
