Greenhouse Query - Advice please

Hi everyone.

This my first post and I do hope it is in the correct place.

The following query is regarding an  intended allotment/veg greenhouse

I am looking for your advice as to wether I should wash and erect a 2nd hand greenhouse now (November) or wait until spring?

At the moment I am concerned over the following  points -

The greenhouse is stolen as it is stored on an allotment. There is no place to store these lengthy parts at home

The greenhouse aluminium struts twist if stored in a heap over the winter, making it impossible to erect later or fit glass.

I realise that it may be difficult to get reasonable weather to complete the erection in one shot in November, however Mar April generally is a windy time as well, plus spring fetches a myriad of other jobs to do so time will be short.

If I wash clean and erect now at least Jeyes residue & the fumes will be gone by next spring & the greenhouse will be ready to plant in.

What are your thoughts?

    North Durham I would get it erected now. I can only see positives in doing it now. In spring, as you say, there will be so much to do on your land. It will be good to have the greenhouse to put things in whilst you are out on your plot and a place to go into if it suddenly rains. I've spent many a happy time sitting in my GH in the winter, watching the birds and planning garden changes, I have a little stool in there.

    I agree, do it as soon as you can rope someone in to help you. image  Then you can get everything sorted by the time spring arrives.  The whole point of a greenhouse is so that you can get ahead a bit earlier than those of use without one ....

    I'd suggest you get it done now. Spring always seems like a busy time for gardeners and having the parts in place mean they're much less likely to get broken / "borrowed" for other jobs around the allotmet.

    On the note of doing it in one shot, get grame up first, then if time is running out for the day, leave the glass out and complete the next available day.

    I would make sure it is properly secured to the ground as well, and if elevating on bricks or whatever to gain some height, make sure to that it is fixed very well.

    Thank you everyone. It is so good to to get sound advice from fellow gardeners. It is now decided we will continue to erect the greenhouse now instead of waiting until spring. It will aslo be better to do it now while we can still recall how it all fitted (we have 50 pics to help as well)

    KEF - We would love to post a couple of pics as the plot progresses.

    We were thinking of putting in 4 railway sleepers pegged down and levelled (no creosote) and then fixing the 150mm high base on top of that. Gives extra height. Easy to lift out if we ever move as next occupier may not want bricks on concrete.

    Anyone like to guide us on suitable bases please?
