Hi all, just had a night in the worst hotel in the country.
Didn't expect a lot given the price but it was next door to the party venue so several of us booked in.
We got;
A freezing cold room with non functioning radiator. Complaints produced a fan heater. Not all the rooms were cold, some had banging radiators. With our fan heater we probably got the best deal
One ancient, thin, umpleasant looking blanket
Mattress with lumpy springs on one side and a hole big enough to fall in on the other.
A TV wobbling on its stand with no way of re-tuning from a few unidentified stations.
A hairdryer with exposed wires
A kettle plugged in to a floor level so with a lead not long enough to reach the surface it was on.
Pretty grubby over all
A few instant coffee sachets, 2 saucers and one cup
Wifi throughout? advertised on website. no chance
Continental breakfast included, no sign of that or any place it might come from. But by this time what we wanted was out not another excuse so we didn't ask.
Some of these issues are H&S, all not fit for purpose. Any idea where I start for an official complaint, other than the hotel itself, the proprietors won't be interested in changing anything.

Name and Shame Nut - we don't want to go there!!!
Look on it's advertising - is it a member of any particular group or trading body?
Write to local tourist office and Trading Standards.
Launder all your clothes and send your coat etc to drycleaners - my boss picked up bedbugs and had to have her whole house treated because she sat in her coat on the bed in just such a hotel. Better safe than sorry.
Hope you get a good night's sleep tonight Nut - put the earplugs in, it's windy out there!
Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Hope you took some photos to back up all those horrors. And I hope the other folks who stayed will complain. Is there somewhere on their web site that you can do a report. It sounds awfull and you were very brave to stay all night. We had the same experience in Edinburgh, it was dreadful and I couldn't bear to stay the night so we left at 10.30 pm and travelled for an hour to find a travel lodge that was open to stay in.
Hi Dove,
Clothes already to the wash. I have a friend in pest control, whe deals with bedbugs . She says there's a smell to a place with bed bugs, didn't smell anything unusual.
It's a member of a group, some of which are said to be not bad. I'll go there and Trading Standards, that's the name I couldn't bring to mind.
I've given them a suitable review on Trip advisor.com (or similar)
We survived the night and the party was good. We met up with people I haven't seen for years. Much good cheer and catching up. They are look much older, I don't think I do.

We wondered about just going home Forester but the party continued this morning and we had to be there for breakfast. The lack of it at the hotel was nothing to us but it was advertised as included. I shall be complaining properly, I've become a bit of an activist in my old age

Good for you Nut.
I have a rule, that is if it's not as good as what i have at home i'm not staying or going anywhere. Like caravaning I just dont get it. If you want to be cramped all week, move all you furniture into the spare room, eat, sleep and live in there, at least you still have a flushing toilet, and you dont have to see it twice.

Oh nut what a shame. Sounds like hell. What part of the country did you go?
Oh dear Nut - glad the party was good to make it worth the discomfort.
OH and i once walked into a place like that after a family party - it was so horrendous ( filthy shower tray, complete with someone elses hair left as a souvenir .... Shudder) that we walked straight back out and slept on our relatives floor (under the dining room table!!). That was in North Norfolk - hope it wasn't the same place!!
