Pruning a Rowan Tree

I have a 15ft, self-sown Rowan tree with a dozen stems, but no main trunk. I want to keep it down to a reasonable height. Any ideas on how to prune it?

  • I'd take out a third of the stems right down to the bottom as if coppicing  - then in a few years' time when new growth has made some height, I'd take out another third of the old stems, and then in another few years do the same to the last one third of original stems.  And in a few years' time start again.
