tomato Gardener's Delight

Hi All

We've grown tomato Gardener's Delight for donkey's years. Last 2 years fruits have been a bit bigger, texture more mushy, taste not as good. Not doing anything different with watering, feeding etc. Any ideas?

Inferior compost perhaps. Even the same brand of compost differs from one year to the next

It's certainly been that way this year with compost. MAny of us here noticed how random it often was. I grew Red Alert and it seemed  a bit watery and tasteless so perhaps that was the reason.

It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....

I live in west central Scotland - not where that photo is...

I have grown them for years and this year found them, with the excellent summer, to be as good as any other year except for this autumn (Oct. 10th to 20th) when they have been very soft, watery and hard skinned. I assume this is due to the still warm weather (60F in GH in Cheshire). Flavour from June to September, superb as usual and will grow the usual 2-3 plants again.

  • Thanks everyone. I will still grow them next year with the other 15 varieties - ever the optimist! Am becoming a fan of Favorita.
