I'm just wondering whether it's from done thing I planted or whether it's something that the birds left? Ignore the white specks, they were left by an inconsiderate painter.

Cold burnt sow thistle, maybe?
Sonchus oleraceus - common sowthistle would be my first guess. But definitely not something you'd normally buy.
