Don't really know what I'm on about but I thought I'd seen today that 8.1 had been withdrawn.

Thanks again Salino for telling me how to reduce / post my pictures. Hope all is ok with youimage

..hi KEF...yes, thank you and it's nice to talk to you again.... I'm pleased I was able to help with the photo situation a while ago...

...I've not heard this one about it being withdrawn... but I notice a lot of very dissatisfied customers so far...

...just wait till we all get this Google Glass thingy.... oh my goodness... don't get me started...image

  • I'm on 8.1 installed no problems and works perfect for me. Had no issues at all. It's not 8.1 that's been pulled for laptops & computers as such. It's 8.1 RT thats been pulled, that runs on that spin screen laptop thing the RT and tabs, not sure about phones.

Also if you are having problems with Explorer you need to click on tools, select compatibility view settings, and untick the two box's. That's microsoft's answer till they do they update. I belive google is behaving naughty with gmail, and search results being on the left hand side. Google changed it's code before 8.1 got it's launch date.  good way to plug chrome, & getting google to change anything is pointless. So microsoft will update the code soon.

Zombie..... I want to thank you so much for that information and advice... I didn't know about those settings and I have removed those 2 ticks in the compatibility view settings.... it works so much better... my emails are back to normal too...

    I'm very grateful...image

..however, I still believe 8.1 has an intrusive nature that was not there with 8 on it's own... and unless one is very careful to customise settings, especially if using their Sky Drive.. then we are giving them too many permissions...like social media... it's checking those privacy settings that's very important... I wonder if too many people will, during download, simply go with the 'recommended' settings... of course if you don't get involved with Sky Drive or Apps then we don't need that MS account, but if you do...then we have been warned...

one know if it’s possible to buy a new PC with a Win 7 operating system?.....I need to replace my existing  desktop.

You can buy a desktop pc with windows 8/8.1 and a copy of Windows 7.  Pop the disc into the drive and start the computer up.  It's very easy (maybe a little daunting) to install windows nowadays.  I haven't bought a "built" PC for a long time.

The issue for Windows 8 is that it's designed for touch screen and doesn't work well with a mouse.  Windows 8.1 sort of put the "start" button back and made it a bit more mouse and keyboard friendly.

Microsoft and Apple are just as bad as each other for providing ill prepared software and hardware to the market.  It makes it worse because they both make the software script invisible from users.  If there is then a problem you have to wait for their proprietry engineers to sort it out.  I find it ironice that "Apple lovers" hated Microsoft's corporate dominance yet out of the founders, one died a multi-billionaire (Steve Jobs) and the other is one of history's biggest philanthropists with a charitable foundation doing great work in Africa (Bill Gates).

  • you are very welcome Salino happy to have helped. I feel microsoft have been played by google, The world knew 8.1 was coming on the17th, and for google to change it's code the night before, was very sneeky. Google just sat back and watched everyone go mad at microsoft. I bet there was alot of high fives going on at google HQ, They pulled it off beautifully.
