bleeding cherry tree

hi all, i have a 4 year old cherry tree growing in a nice sunny position in our back garden on the south coast. my wife left the label on it attached by a small piece of wire and this has cut into the trunk quite badly to the extent that the tree seems to be bleeding all the time, even now at this time of the year. we have got rid of as much of the wire and label as possible but its still bleeding. even got a little puddle on the floor. i could kick myself. any suggestions much appreciated.
