unless you feed the local birdlife get a plastic decoy owl and put it where it can be seen from everywhere in your garden, keeps cats rats and mice away too.
squirrels have decimated my lawn, there are holes everywhere and I may have to have it either returfed or slabbed. I've put netting over my bulbs to keep them out but the lawn is ruined. What about seeding? Any thoughts and has anyone else had their lawn ruined by the little buggers?
Five years after my initial post and I am still waging war against the little blighters! Currently trialling coffee grounds (courtesy of Waitrose). They haven't dug up my potted bulbs (yet 😁) so I intend to continue applying grounds around all my plants this year in the hope it deters them. Will report on whether it is successful.
I put chicken wire or cloches over my bulb pots until the leaves start coming through, the squirrels then seem to leave them alone. They haven't yet dug up any of the crocus or tulip bulbs planted in the borders, but do bury lots of walnuts off the tree next door!
Steffi, don't worry too much about your lawn, it will soon improve as soon as it gets warmer and starts growing. Look on the bright side, you've had the lawn aerated for free - holes are good for it!
Hostafan1.....are you related to my other half? He is attempting to solve the pigeons on the roof problem with a slingshot. I'm not worried about the birds (he's a poor shot) but am concerned about the solar panels. He would be a menace with an air rifle. 😱
