I love BBC Gardeners World but found it difficult trying to change my email address as I have a new one and wonered if I am still on the readers panel as I was when my email address was [email protected] once I had gone on to broadband I wasn't able to get into gardeners world via the old address. so I'm hoping that all will be the same. It really is enjoyable being able to save items that you find more interesting.and feeling that it is our gardeners world. Kay

I have been given an Agapanthus this summer and have put it
in a sunny spot, I was told you put it straight in the ground.
It has flowered beautifull all through the summer, so can it stay outside where it is and should I protect it in any way.

    Thanks.
    René
  • I have a large tub with 14 Agapanthus which I grew from seed five years ago. What a wonderful sight they are when in full bloom on a summer day. With regards to Ren I myself have about an inch of WOOD CHIP over my bulbs and they survived last winters frosts. Kind Regards Oldgreenfingers.

My agapanthus bulb has gone all mushy - I assume it has died or is this normal?
  • I have received bulbs in compost, in a box for planting. Can I leave them in the dark until end of April to plant out - as I am taking them to Italy? Or should I plant in pots sooner. Latter does take up more room in the car.

Cool and dark -too much warmth and they will sprout-although it would be best to get them in some compost-they do best when crammed in -so a big pot is not neededimage

I seen to remember when I bought my agapanthus that they were bare roots, am I muddling them up with something else, whatever they were they are in a tub, overwintered in the greehhouse and have never bloomed.

  • Many thanks re planting or delaying planting bulbs.  I'm going to leave them a couple of weeks, in the dark/cool and then plant in small pots.

  • I think I may have a problem with one of my Agapanthus bulbs. The bulb seems to have very small brown flies around the new leaf growth. The new leaf grows and then the top gets eaten off, any advice would be welcome.
