What is this plant?

I've just moved into my bungalow and the garden is fantastic. However there is a plant growing next to the pond that appears to possibly be a tree as there is a large trunk but there is a lot of new growth spreading outwards. It looks lovely but I would like to know what it is. I've tried looking on garden sites but no joy. Anyone know what this is?

It looks like Acacia dealbata or silver wattle. It should have yellow flowers on in spring.
Here is a good description, I also know it as mimosa.

Many thanks for your responses. I only saw a few types of mimosa which didn't look like this but your descriptions and links show it to be a dealbata.
