    I cut them back a bit now so they don't stop so much wind in winter then hack them right back in spring

  • I'd cut it back by half when you plant it to avoid wind rock loosening the roots over the winter.  

    Then in the spring - early March, cut all shoots back to 3 or 4 shoots from the base, pruning to a pair of outward facing buds if possible. 

    Repeat every year.image
