I have been given a large fuschia plant, but there is no label so i am unsure what to do with it.  I was told its a trailing fuschia?  I wanted to plant it in an old chimney pot i have but i dont know if i can leave it out over winter or not? im very new to gardening.

Do you have a photo? This is a site with masses of photos that you can enlarge by clicking on them. It will take a bit of time, but you can compare the flowers with yours and look up the results on Google.

That was the one I thought it could be. It is a trailing variety. Now look it up and see if it's like yours. It isn't frost hardy, so you would have to bring it indoors in winter. It will lose it's leaves in winter.
