Amaryllis

Hi,

Advise me please on amaryllis. Flowered in March and April and did as web sites said. Stopped watering recently and even now the huge bulb with baby bulb is healthy and green. Do I cut off the leaves or what do I do--could be years before I get another flower at this rate.

  • Pot it up with fresh compost - I find loam-based is best because it gives greater stabilty.  Mine's still outside in the growhouse, but as the weather cools down I'll bring it indoors and keep my fingers crossed.  image

In hot countries, amaryllis are evergreen. My mum keeps hers in a conservatory, waters and feeds (tomato or comfrey fertiliser) all year round, and has flowers on one or the other all the time. Two of mine that flowered in spring sent up another flower spike in August, and one currently has a big seed pod, presumably pollinated by being outside.
