Moving Roses

Hi, can anyone help, I would like to move a couple of roses as they are in a very windy position, when would the best time be?

I would wait til the leaves fall off and they are fully dormant - probably some time between November and March.   That is the period when the rose companies send out their bareroot plants.

I have a Rose with Black Spot which I want to move and also treat the black spot. Any help advice please.

If the rose is susceptible to black spot, it will probably develop it again no matter where you move it to. You could try pruning out any stem lesions (black scabby bits) and make sure you remove and burn or dispose of any affected leaves. There are fungicides available which are supposed to treat this disease, but I haven't found them very effective.

to Landgirl100. Thank you for your advice. I try not to use chemicals so I guess I now have to decide if I want to keep this particular rose ( my garden and this rose were badly neglected summer 2012 ) or buy a new one.

Mulching around the root area can help to keep the spores at bay - in my last garden Mme Alfred Carriere suffered badly from black spot, but it is such a gorgeous rose - I grew it up a fence and grew tall perennials in front of it to mask it's nakedness
