Caterpillars

Noticed a few around this year. The first I saw today, at first glance I thought it was slug but it's definatley a caterpillar of some sort. It seemed to be

intent on tucking into a corncockle seed head

I've seen a lot of these on the sweet rockets, I thought they might be cabbage whites but I thought they were green?

Be good to know what they are, thanks

The bottom one is the caterpillar of the Great White butterfly, common on brassicas.  First one is a bit out of focus so tricky, but probably a moth caterpillar?

Thanks Bob, the whites have had a really good year

I know.... for the life of me I couldn't get it into a sharper focus, I was surprised how big it was, if it's still there tomorrow I'll try and take a better picture

The large slug like one was no where to found, saw this hairy one on the gate post this morning

Could it be a Buff-tip moth caterpillar?  Quite a big moth.

Thanks very much Bob, think your right, had a look today and it had gone, learn't that they pupate underground.

Not sure if it's just the season but have been gardening for wildlife for a couple of years and have definatley seen more catepilliars this yearimage
