Elderberry??

image

Near to where I live, where I pick my blackberries, there are these berries.  My question is are they elderberries? or something a bit more nefarious?

    Yes, elderberries - 100% definite!

look very like elderberries to me.

the leaves and stems of elder have a very pungent scent, nothing else remotely like it

  • Thanks both.

Now to see if I can reach them.

    Elderberry wine?image

  • It depends how much I can forage.

I have a load of blackberries to use, so may make some blackberry and elderberry jam.  But wine is an option.

Make sure you don't get any bits of the fruit stems in the wine/jam.  They are extremely bitter as they contain a lot of tannins.
