Plastic pots

Have numerous plastic pots in the garden with hostas and bedding plants in, they seem to be eaten by something at the bottom of them (not base) which leave 2 - 5" holes in them - what can it be?  I live in the middle of the country and was wondering if it could be either pheasants or squirrels or could it be the sunlight I am completely mystified!!! Many thanks for any ideas!

Most probably the sunlight/UV. It depends on the plastic, polypropylene disintegrates quite quickly, even though the makers say it won't.

Can you see tiny scrape marks around the edges of the holes as if a tiny chisel has cut them out?

We have voles that will try to eat anything.

  • Sounds like voles never thought they would eat plastic!  Have lots of small holes about the garden and the pots are not knocked over where they have been eaten!  Doubtful if it is sun live in Scotland - had good summer but not that good!

Any other suggestions welcome and any hints on how to get rid of the critters - poison or traps!!!??

    Thanks

'Fraid I'm not the one to ask about control. I love voles. I think there is nothing prettier than a little furry, timorous beastie sitting eating a strawberry and looking you in the eye.

That said, we have two cats and they do catch a fair number of them, and go on to eat them. Saves on catfood bills.
