MICHAELMAS DAISY

I have a Michaelmas Daisy (Bahamas) that is about 4 years old. The plant has flowered profusely every year. This year it grew quite healthily to a height of about 3 ft. No buds or flowers appeared & the plant began to go brown & wither from ground level upwards.

Rightly or wrongly I have cut the plant back to ground level.

Why hasn't the plant fowered & have I done the right thing by cutting it back?

cutting it back was probably a good move, it wouldn't have looked much in flower if it had got that far not with brown leaves.

I find the traditional MDs do this a lot for me, I blamed my dry soil and stopped growing them.

I do better with some of the other species of aster, though 'Monch' which a lot of people recommend doesn't do well for me

I grow aster 'little Carlow' and that does well, all others seem to suffer with mildew.
