ant-nest-in-my-rose-pot

Please help!

I have noticed recently that when I am watering my rose a lot of ants come out of the soil and climb up the plant. There are hundreds of the little critters! They are also eating the leaves and my rose is looking a little worse for wear. What can I do to get the ants to leave? This is my favourite rose so I am desperate for help

The easiest way to assure no ants in pots is to put a piece of landscape fabric in the bottom over drainage holes. Water can get out but bugs can't get in. image

I had them in a plumbago in a pot. My other half got a block from B&Q which you leave on the soil in the pot and it kills the ants. It would then be worth taking out of the pot and doing as addict suggested and replant in the pot.

Thanks to both of you for the advice

  • I've had success with keeping the soil damp to get rid of ants as they seem to like it dry.
