Morning, 

I have a 2 year old Umbrella Bamboo in a large container. It was very happy last year throwing out new shoots and being as green as it should be.

I loosly wrapped it in thin fleece over winter. This year although still with new shoots it has some blackened leaves at the top and lots and lots of white, fluffy stuff, mostly around the leaf joints. I presume it is some sort of fungus, I am wondering that I should not have wrapped it up. 

I have cut out a couple of canes from the middle as i thought maybe there was not enough air circulating. I have also put some canes in to separate the canes.

Any other suggestions would be very welcome as I do love it, it is very much a running fingers through the branches ( how very Mills and Boon! ) plant but this is not a pleasant thing to do now...

    Could be a fungus, might be something like mealy bug which create a white cotton wool-like substance. Any chance of a photo?
