Just reading the potato variety thread and thinking about what I want to grow next year.

I love Tomatoes and grow excessive amounts of them (for an average sized garden), but would like to grow some 1st early salad potatoes next year.

I it risky for my Toms? Has anyone else grown both successfully?

Gonna get a bigger greenhouse the year after image

There's a school of thought that you shouldn't grow spuds and toms together on the basis that they're the same family. The reality is that you can.

About the only downside might be doubling your chances of blight infections, but if the fungal spores are around and the conditions are sympathetic to the spores, you're going to get infections regardless.

Planting crops from the same family in the same soil in successive years can be another matter because of the risk of soil-borne diseases. I've done it, but only after refreshing the soil thoroughly.

I know a family who have been growers of tomatoes for years - in the same old farming community and the old lady told me that the old farmers would not socialise with potato farmers and they physically kept themselves apart. It made me chuckle and was a lovely story.
