Hi, What are the best plants to put round a wildlife pond, have just finished digging mine out so any advice would be most welcome.
Purple loosestrife, Lythrum salicaria is attractive to bees, and the dragonfly larvae climb up it to hatch into dragonflies.
in the pond (or boggy bit round it) or on dry land?
Both in the pond and round the edge?
The candelabra primulas like that location and rodgersia is fond of a damp spot!
Iris pseudocorus, yellow water iris are nice and do the dragonfly larvae thind as well but you have to stop them taking over. Marsh marigolds, water mint, some oxygenators
That site's fascinating Sara, and some beautiful plants. Not sure that they'll all be hardy in the UK and also not sure how useful some of them are to UK wildlife.
This site has lots of suitable native plants for a wildlife pond in the UK. http://www.wildaboutgardens.org.uk/resources/leaflets/WildlifePondPack.pdf
Waterside nursery has a section on wildlife ponds. And usefully a monthly 'what to do now' bit.
