cuttings-from-hydrangeas

Good afternoon everyone I need so help and advice again please.

I have the most beautiful Hydrangea in full bloom in my back garden, in shades of pink and blue but at a spot where it isn't really seen and I'd like to take a cutting from it and plant that down somewhere we can actually see it.

Can you please tell me how/best way to take a cutting?

Thanks in advance, Heather

  • Hi Heather,

This is the time to take cuttings of the ones you like.

Use the soft 7- 10cm tips of the non flowering shoots, cut through at the leaf joint; in gritty compost they will root under polythene, out of the sun.

Good luck for spring time plants.

    Cheers Helen.

  • Thank you so much Helen. I wasn't even sure if this was the time to do it so you've answered that as well, Heather.

I root the in water, very easy.

  • Thanks Blairs now I have more than one idea to go on so that's great. One thing though, if I put a cutting in water, could I say keep it in a shed over winter? Or would that be too dark and dry?
