black-currant

hope some one can help me i have some black currant plantsand have picked all the fruit.  but was woundering when do i prune them back .thanks

    You prune the old wood - it is brown-yellow in colour and normally has flowers.fruit on it. Cut them to the ground after fruiting. New growth (and next years fruit)  are the green stems. You leave them.

    Time to prune is after you pick the fruit, but before spring. I always do it about now, because I then forget about the plant until the fruit is ready next year. What could be easier, pick fruit , prune, maybe a  mulch in winter and a feed in spring. Total maintenance about 2 hours per year. Picking time 3 hours. Jamming time 6 hours. Little beads of sunshine to go with porridge all winter.image
