Stacey I found some thing like that think it was a tulip bulb gone to seed I just sprinkled it around see what happens, not seen it till this year

  • It was most def not a bulb.... It was ontop of stems about 6ft or taller that had been cut down!! They seemed to be one flower per tall stem unfortunately no foliage remained... The stems were a good 3/4cm in diameter... Got 3 pods I'm gonna plant to see what they are. I have checked on a seed identification site but can't find them

one flower on top of a 6 foot stem and no foliage. That must narrow it down a bit. I've never grown anything like that

  • Stacey dont know but my Mother in law found the same pods in Spain when she was on holiday and said it was growing up the houses there and had lovley flowers on. So she brought some pods back,i planted the seed and it took about 12 months for the seedlings to come through. They are now about 6 inches high,so i hope they flower next year. Dont know if this will help will try and get picture on forum.

  • Oooo flight that would be great. They were planted in a specific pattern by the groundsman so...... Have just planted them so we will see..... How exciting

lilies have seed pods like that.

    It's not a mess, it's a nature reserve.
  • Are there lilies about 5 foot tall? The seed pods have flat seeds inside with a feathery membrane holding them in. Was gonna ask rhs but can't find a link

One of my neighbours once had some very tall lilies - I think they were Madonna lilies, but I can't be sure - it was forty years ago.image
