Hyacinths: Too early? Too late?

Hi everyone: I've been a bit late planting my forced hyacinths. I've unpacked them and they have already got little pale green stubs. Do I still need to keep them cool and dark or do I work on the basis that they've done their cool dark bit while still in the brown paper bag they were stored in???? Advice v much appreciated. Thanks!

I keep them cool and dark until there’s a good inch and a half of growth … I was told that way the flower buds should be developing clear of the bulb and that should prevent those short stubby blooms that sometimes happen.
    Works for me 😊
