Can anyone tell me what this fir tree is, I’m from Gwent South Wales

    Going by the glorious colour I would say  Metasequoia  glyptostroboides....common name Dawn redwood.
    A deciduous conifer.

    However  in your 1st pic it is difficult to see detailMore pics below see link..

    I know there’s only a few conifers that drop their needles, and one being Dawn Redwood, but the ones I’ve seen are a lot more cone shaped ?

    Your 2nd pic  looks a perfectly normal shape for a Dawn redwood...a fabulous example.
    Please compare the leaves/needles on your tree to my pic.
    Do they match?

    Normally the bottom branches get removed to reveal the interesting trunk...see pics in my link
