what-is-eating-my-parsley-leaves

I was wondering whether anyone could tell me, what pest is eating these Parsley leaves? I have Basil in the other side of the tray, yet they've hardly been touched. I thought it was odd that they had just eatten the leaves, and not the stems aswell.

Thankyou!    image

Very likely caterpillars.  Rabbits love parsley but do eat the stems, too.

A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.

We had exactly the same symptoms of stalks stripped bare in 24 hours I did however find lots of little beetles with 4 reddy orange spots. They are (were) Glischrochilus 4-pustulatus to give them their Latin name and they normally keep themselves to themselves in the bark of conifers. Our fruit cage, in which the parsley grows, is however next door to an ancient yew  which I suppose accounts for it. They also went for the raspberry plants.

    How unfortunate image

I've had the opposite problem and some thing is eating holes in my basil leaves! They eat out the middles of the leaves and just leave the veins! Wish they'd eat some of the parsley instead.. we've got far too much and rarely eat it.

  • Thankyou for your replies, and sorry for my super late response!

What ever it was, did attack my basil leaves in the end, and for some reason my rose in a pot next to the greenhouse too   image

  • looks like the work of sawfly larvae to me

  • it is the caterpillars one of the best ways to sort that is to use the ultimate bug killer but you have to spray it once a week and that will do it because I do it with mine because I was having that problem.
