Anyone know what this is? I don't remember seeing it last year when we moved in. It has sprung up since I cut the poppies back.
As usual, sorry for the sideways pic!
Houttuynia Cordata... invasive, but pretty white flowers...
It's a bit invasive but quite pretty
Thank you for the replies.
Would it be content to be moved to another spot? The space its in is pretty sparsely populated so I wad considering using this spot for my rose bush.
It's the sort of plant you can move and then you've got it in 2 places. It can be quite hard to get rid of
Ah, ok I'll bear that in mind. So I'm guessing then that if I dig it up to plant my rose there, it'll probably spring up again around the rose? I'm not sure if I should try it anyway or if this is a recipe for disaster. What would people recommend? Sorry for yet another question!
Ask as many questions as you like Lottie
I'm fairly tolerant of invasive plants as I have a large garden. It's quite pretty, it depends how much you like it.
I can guarantee that several people will tell you to get rid of it and they may well have the right idea.
I keep it for the smell. If you crush the leaves it is like bitter oranges. It also likes damp areas so I have it next to the pond in the boggy bit.
Wonderful. Thank you all. I might give it a go at moving it to make space for the rose and then just keep a really good eye on it. Watch this space for the post asking how to rid a garden of crazily overgrown houttunia!
