    I found it odd that potatoes was consistently spelled as potatos.

    That book was from about the time that dad was getting interested in gardening. The tools don't change much. I distinctly remember him using a National Dried Milk tin with holes punched in the bottom and a bucket as a watering can. That wasn't in the book though.

    As a child/teenager/etc I had no interest in the garden It was there and "somebody" sorted it out. Over the "adult" years we have collected many fabulous gardening books (not the one @war garden 572 has talked about). We continue to look at our old books for advice and they don't let us down.
  • bertrand-mabel i have at least 300 books. 
  • @Uff My dad painted National Dried Milk tins in colours to match the kitchen (grey and maroon) back in the 50s. Mum kept biscuits in them.
