Your plant needs a larger pot.  Fresh compost added will help with water retention.  You also need to give your plant a good amount of water when the top couple of inches of compost gets dry.  Put the pot on the draining board or in a bucket and water the compost thoroughly until the water runs out of the bottom, then stop.  I do this about every two weeks in winter, more frequently during the growing season.  You have done the right thing to move your plant out of the window.  It needs light but not direct sun.  I'd tidy the plant up also by removing the dead leaves with a sharp pair of secateurs or scissors.  It does look like it will recover!

  • Thank you so much, I will do exactly what you advised.
  • Your plant looks more like a Dracena.  I keep mine ( coastal Somerset ) on  a north facing window sill ( no curtains or blinds ) so plenty of light but it is in the kitchen so a reasonable temperature and some humidity most of the time  too.  I usually give a good soak and then don't water again until necessary.  Ensure that the pot has adequate drainage.
I agree that the present pot appears too small for the plant size.  Good luck with keeping it going  :)

I also thought your plant was a Dracaena, like @philippasmith2, probably Dracaena fragrans 'Massangeana' based on the yellowish lime-green stripe down the centre of the leaves.  I had one which quickly outgrew its pot.  It's also a good idea to turn your pot every couple of weeks so that the plant grows evenly and does not lean towards the light, like mine did!
