Threat to Barndale Gardens

There are plans to operate a solar farm next to Barnsdale Gardens. If this goes ahead it will result in its closure. Nick Hamilton has asked for as much support as possible in having the solar farm resited.

    It’s a big farm, half a mile x half a mile.

Looking at it as someone who has never been to the area and knows nothing about the topography, it feels as is somebody at Barnsdale has upset somebody on the estate. 🫤

why would the solar farm result in the closing of the Gardens?

    From the link.

We have learnt that a company called Exton Energy is planning to build a solar farm on 81 hectares of land in the fields right next door to Barnsdale Gardens.

As vital as renewable energy is, there are better local fields to place this where the constant noise of the motorised panels, as they follow the sun, will not be the overriding factor ruining the peace for our visitors and wildlife and may force the closure of Barnsdale Gardens.

The Exton estate is the next door neighbour. Wedding venue etc etc.

Sorry but I would be supporting the solar farm.
We have a few round here and they are not as obtrusive or noisy as you might think.

When I have visited Barnsdale I have never noticed the fields behind the gardens. Hedgerows block the view, if I remember correctly. As such, I don’t think the solar farm will be especially detrimental to the visitor experience.

However for the Hamilton household it will be very different. Their grand house has an uninterrupted view over fields, admittedly, quite flat fields and not Rutland’s finest landscape. If the solar farm goes ahead, 10’ high panels will cover the two fields (approx half a mile) behind the house and extend leftwards for nearly three quarters of a mile. The big house adjacent to Barnsdale Gardens is similarly impacted.

If it were to have a view of fields behind my house replaced by banks of solar panels I would not be happy. Who would be?

Is “the big house adjacent to Barnsdale” Exton house?

If so, then the name of the house and the name of the “Exton Energy” that is proposing the solar farm bear a similarity that suggests that they are linked.

I guess that the Exton estate is using a bit of not very productive agricultural land to raise revenue for its entertainment business.
