Summer Iris Bulbs

Alfie_Alfie_ Hertfordshire Posts: 183
Hi,

Planted some Dutch discovery iris bulbs in October and they are putting on a fair bit of top growth already despite their flowering time being early summer next year:

These were taken today so after the big chill we had. Is this normal? Should I be leaving them alone to doing something to protect them?

thanks

They'll be fine - assuming they have the right growing conditions, ie - nice gritty, free draining soil, and are planted at the right depth etc. Many bulbs, including summer flowering ones, can show growth early on, but they settle down again.
They don't come back reliably though - they're not like those Iris that grow from rhizomes   :)
It's a place where beautiful isn't enough of a word....
