Disease or normal - photo attached

I bought quite a large Radermachera. It looks healthy apart from its got brown lumps on the stem. Is this scale or is it normal? I've read it could be lenticels, or 'barking'. I have no idea. If its scale should I return this plant, or treat the scale? Will I be able to completely eradicate it? Thanks in advance.

That doesn’t look like scale to me. I’d keep an eye on it to see if it changes, but not be overly worried about it.
