Celery Planted Outside Has Some kind of Disease
in Fruit & veg
Hi,
I grew three celery plants from stems. I first potted them inside and when they were large and healthy I planted them outside in pots. Recently I noticed many of the stalks had gone black. I removed them but there appears to be something eating or rotting them.
I've attached some pictures. Is this some kind of mould? It looks like the leaves have been eaten and I've noticed a few small snails on the stems but not sure if they're doing the damage.

Fenland celery is a bit hardier; it's grown in trenches and is earthed up for blanching and protection from the frost, but it's harvested before the worst of the winter weather hits.

Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Can you recommend a treatment? I've read that baking soda and vinegar can be used...
