Hummingbird hawk moth

Just saw the most amazing thing. Lovely morning here in Devon and looking out the kitchen window I saw what looked like a tiny hummingbird. It was flicking from flower to flower on my salvia amistad! Incredible, wish I took a picture, It definitely had an orange colour to it, guessing it’s one of these perhaps? Hummingbird hawk moth

  • Lots of us have seen them for the first time this year - there is a thread on here about them somewhere. But yes, very exciting to see!

Wow - that's late!  I've had the pleasure of one visiting my garden all summer (like many, for the first time), but it must be more than a month since I last saw it.

Deaths head hawk moth seen yesterday in Leicestershire.(not by me). Pretty amazing all round, this warm air plume coming up country . I've put the moth trap out again, always hopeful, even though I'd washed the white sheet ready for it all going away for the winter.
