  • Oh ‘eck @chicky!  That sounds grim. Better check with our friend in Kilburn … she only moved back into her groundfloor flat a few weeks ago after the flash flood in July ‘21 … her home was chest deep in water and sewage 😭 and she lost almost everything. It was especially sad because she’d just cleared her late mothers house and lost all her childhood and family photos … she’s the only child of only children so no one else has any pics … except OH’s mum has found a few of her playing with OH as children as they were neighbours. That’s all she has left. 😢

    Hi all

Heavy rain here too, but no where nearly as bad as you lot further south.
Mouth still sore, so i have metaphorically bitten the bullet, and am going back to see the dentist later.

Whew - well we survived yesterday afternoon's storm force winds and torrential rain. At least it calmed down during the early evening as, after the '87 hurricane when we suffered quite severe damage, I simply cant get a wink of sleep if there are strong winds overnight. Hopefully none of you suffered any damage as yesterday's storm passed over the country, or perhaps it hasn't reached you yet?
The last of the leaves have been stripped from the trees but I am a bit worried about the garden pond. The water level is lipping the edges and threatening to spill out over the lawn and I have visions of the fishes soon making a bid for freedom to pastures new! Which has now reminded me of that children's song from years (and years) ago about fishes swimming over the dam - was it by Frankie Howard? Piffle, now I have an earworm but cant remember any more of the song/ditty.

We must have been typing at the same time, Punkdoc, sensible to get that looked at.
Autumn Spice Cake sounds delicious, Damsel, would be great for a Bonfire night party, except that I don’t like bonfires, too smoky and I’d worry about little critters hiding in them, and I’m not keen on fireworks. I like the pretty coloured ones, but don’t see the appeal of the loud bangs, worry about pets and wildlife, and get really annoyed that the wretched things aren’t restricted to one night a year, but seem to be wrecking the peace and quiet for weeks.
  • Whoops!  I must’ve slept very soundly indeed … it seems that we have had severe weather here too!

Back from the dentist. Dry socket, so the pain is explained. Now feeling even sorer.

Your post made me laugh @Busy-Lizzie - let's face it, you just want a slice of DD's cake!

Slept well last night so missed any storms/torrential rain but there does seem to be a bit of a pattern of strong winds at night.

Off to a lunchtime concert in our local church in a bit - an opera singer accompanied by piano - a lovely baby grand that now lives in the church.  The acoustics are wonderful.
