For those who are obliged to use willow for pea sticks, now is the time to cut them, trim into the required length, tie them into a bundle(s) and chuck them on the garden for the winter.  This prevents them from sprouting if you don't cut them until you need them.  I'm also saving newspapers to put in my runner bean pit to save moisture.
